With a powder coating machine, trouble rarely comes from choosing the wrong model - it comes from skipping the confirmations around delivery. A configuration list never checked line by line, site conditions left unprepared, a trial run that only looks at “does it spray powder” - all of these push problems past startup day. Below are 12 items grouped into four stages: ordering, unboxing, trial run, and paperwork. The summary table comes first, then how to verify each one.
1. The 12 Items at a Glance
| Stage |

How to verify |
| Ordering and pre-shipment |
1. Configuration list, line by line |
Cross-check contract annex against the quotation; quantities and specs in writing |
| Ordering and pre-shipment |
2. Main power, air supply, grounding |
Send three site photos to the supplier’s service team for confirmation |
| Ordering and pre-shipment |
3. Connecting equipment and cabinet location |
Powder feed center, reciprocator rod, gun cabinet position confirmed in writing |
| Ordering and pre-shipment |
4. Spare parts and wear parts scope |
Split the shipped-with list from the purchase-separately list |
| Unboxing |
5. Case count and appearance |
Photograph before signing; record any transit damage on the spot |
| Unboxing |
6. Model and nameplate |
Match contract model against each nameplate |
| Unboxing |
7. Standard parts count |
Gun body, powder hose, control cable, air hose, HV cable against the list |
| Trial run |
8. Voltage display and calibration |
Check display vs. actual output per the manual |
| Trial run |
9. Powder output and atomization |
Fluidization normal, output continuous, no powder spitting |
| Trial run |
10. Air circuit and pressure gauge |
Stable readings, no leaks at fittings |
| Trial run |
11. Electrostatic attraction test |
Test spray on a grounded platform with standard powder |
| Paperwork and after-sales |
12. Documents and training |
Manual and certificates complete; training and service contact in place |
2. Ordering and Pre-Shipment: Four Things in Writing
Configuration list, line by line. Cross-check the annex against the quotation: control unit, gun, powder hopper, trolley, venturi tubes, powder pumps - every quantity and spec in writing. A verbal “everything is included” means nothing once the truck has left.
Three site conditions. Main power, compressed air, grounding. The common practice is to send three photos - power, air, grounding - to the supplier’s service team before the installation crew arrives. The installation guide puts it plainly: confirm first, then the crew enters, so nobody stands around waiting. A poor ground is what voltage anomalies and unstable attraction trace back to later.
Connecting equipment and location. For automatic setups, confirm whether the powder feed center and the reciprocator extension rod are in place, and decide where the gun cabinet sits - before the crew shows up.
Spare parts and wear parts scope. Venturi tubes, inner powder hoses, nozzles and discharge needles wear at the pace of your spraying volume. List what ships with the machine and what must be bought separately at ordering time, not after production starts.
3. Unboxing: Three Checks Before Signing
First, case count and appearance - photograph everything before signing and note any transit damage on the delivery note. Second, models: match the contract model against each nameplate. Configuration lists with a wrong model in the title or a mistyped model number are not rare in this industry; nameplates beat paperwork. Third, count the standard parts: gun body, powder hose, control cable, air hose, high-voltage electrostatic cable, each against the list. The powder hose ships at a standard 3.8 m and can be customized longer; check cable lengths against the contract. The conductive wear-resistant powder hose and the HV cable deserve extra attention - when either fails, the machine spits powder or the voltage reads wrong.
4. Trial Run: Four Actions, Each with a Pass Criterion
| Action |
What to observe |
Pass criterion |
| Voltage display calibration |
Display reading vs. the manual’s correspondence table |
Calibrate per the manual; if off, check wiring and the multiplier module |
| Powder output and atomization |
Hopper fluidization, output continuity |
Continuous flow, no spitting; if spitting, check damp powder path and air pressure |
| Air circuit and pressure |
Gauge readings, fittings |
Stable readings, no leaks; filter first if the air carries moisture |
| Electrostatic attraction |
Test spray on a grounded platform |
Follow the test procedure with standard powder and a timer |
The attraction test deserves a separate note: a clearly written test procedure specifies four things - the gun under test (control unit, gun body, powder hose and powder pump included), a well-grounded test platform, standard powder samples, and a timer. Miss one and the result cannot be reproduced, which makes acceptance arguments unresolvable. Also, a deviation between the display value and the actual output at the gun tip is normal; calibrate per the manual instead of comparing two guns against each other.
5. Paperwork and After-Sales: What You Hold Before Startup
File the manual, certificates and packing list - repairs and spare-part orders depend on them. Do not rush operator training: manual and automatic guns set parameters differently, so have your operators walk through voltage, powder output and atomizing pressure settings on site, not just watch a demo. Confirm who your service contact is and how to reach them. For choosing between automation levels, see the spec pages of the E7 manual powder coating gun and the V12 automatic powder coating gun.
When a Check Fails
| Symptom |
Likely cause |
What to do |
| Fewer items than the list |
Missed packing or outdated list version |
Photograph and send to your contact the same day; request the missing items per the contract annex |
| Nameplate differs from contract |
Wrong shipment or a list typo |
Hold the signature; check every unit before confirming |
| Voltage or output abnormal at trial |
Wiring, air supply or powder path issue |
Follow the manual’s troubleshooting order; do not open the unit yourself |
Self-Check List
Half of these 12 items can be completed before the machine arrives. Send us your workpiece photos, dimensions, daily output and site conditions, and we will walk the checklist with you; sample spraying is available so the configuration decision rests on measured data. Contact us.
